Renewable energy should be produced in an efficient and ecologically friendly way, with safety and sustainability being of utmost importance. The revamp of the hydropower plant Rio Pusteria was planned with these principles in mind, and Eisackwerk Rio Pusteria was able to realize them by moving the power plant away from the town that it had been crossing since it first went into operation in the early 1950s and underground. The architecture of the plant fits harmonically into its surroundings. The new machines were also able to increase the energy production while at the same time increasing the sustainability of the plant. The style of the building reflects the visionary and environmentally friendly values of Eisackwerk Rio Pusteria Srl.

A special feature of the power plant are the two vertical penstocks, which at 440 meters are two of the longest vertical penstocks in Europe. After 18 months of construction, on November 16, 2012, the plant revamp was concluded and it was put into operation. The annual production is approximately 100 million kWh.
